Give me back my Bangalore !

A very funny article about changing lifestyles in Bangalore. I have first hand experienced the same things as mentioned in the article. I have felt like a villager who has wandered into a mall, surprised at the advances and scared of appearing uncouth. There is a corner store near my house where you get everything from Tropicana, RedBull to salsa for your nachos !! However I still miss my Bangalore, yes it has now been completely packaged and sold to crass commercialism. But it would be stupid of me to expect DSL on one hand and no pseudo accents on the other ! This is the flip side of commercialism I will have to come to terms with.

Is it the same deal with Chennai and Hyd ?

Comments welcome.

Even Mumbai has the filthy rich and extremely poor living in the same locality. Just yards away from the coolest mall in town you would find chat-wallahs and pan-wallahs hawking his stuff.
Of the little Bangalore that I saw, there is a kind of segregation. Isnt that true ?

NYT is carrying a set of articles on "the american dream". They started with the preception that the people have in terms of how upwardly mobile they are and what the actual stats say. Didnt seem rosy at all.

There is no denying that there is upward mobility in large section of Indian communities, but this is just the beginning. Our politicians like our cricketers can squander any amount of lead they have.
